My Name is Heather Waring

…and I work with women just like you.

Self-care is a philosophy I’ve lived by ever since I was diagnosed with burnout and adrenal fatigue.
Though I didn’t realise it at the time, that diagnosis ended up being the greatest gift. It forced me to stop. To get back in touch with me. To look after my health. To examine and reevaluate what I needed and what I didn’t.

Along the way, I rediscovered my love for walking.

Walking had been an integral part of my life since I trekked the Great Wall of China in 1999. It has been a lifesaver for me on a few occasions and played a huge part in my recovery as I started to find my path again after burnout.

I work with women who are questioning life and wondering if ‘this is it?’.

Perhaps it’s not where you thought you would be at this stage of your life. You had hopes and dreams that have got lost along the way and to be honest, you have lost a piece of yourself too. You’re not sure when or where but the spark has dimmed or even gone and although you’re not unhappy, you’re not fulfilled either. It’s a weird place to be, I know, I’ve been there. This feeling of being adrift shows itself in many ways and sometimes just needs a little readjustment. At other times, it’s rediscovery and reconnection that’s needed to put you back on your true path.

Where it all started…

After first qualifying as a coach in 2000 I ran successful practices over the subsequent years first specialising in career development and retirement coaching, and then focusing on managing and coaching CEO’s of small businesses.
Over the years I have been an active member of the Federation of Small Businesses; founding member of the Association for Coaching; and chaired the Women in Docklands network, and the Chigwell and City groups of the Athena Network.

In addition, I was a frequent broadcaster on coaching issues – writing regular columns for the Sunday Express; Cosmopolitan Magazine, Glamour magazine, the Newsquest group and for Essex Life. As well as contributing regular articles and tips to many other publications, I was also resident Life Coach at Fish4Jobs and was chosen to be the career expert on ‘Britain’s Worst Boss’ for channel 5.

In July 2008, my East End Girls walking group was featured on Radio4’s ‘Ramblings’ programme with Clare Balding.

My life was adrenalin-packed!

In autumn 2013 I burnt out and although taking some time out, only dealt with it superficially before jumping back in again and finding myself in a similar place 12 months later.

In the next year, I worked on me and rediscovering who I really was. It wasn’t always easy but I am here to tell you that facing things is absolutely the way to go and it was never as hard as I envisaged. Yes, there were tears and fears but when you come out the other side it is to a better version of yourself and it’s so joyous.

Venturing out again…

On my return to work, I knew that my work would need to be different. And I decided to focus my business upon my passion for walking.

Now, as well as my chosen delivery vehicle for my coaching and nurturing work, it’s also my ‘me time’, my meditation and planning time, creative time and also allows me to indulge my other passions of food and wine, photography, travel and spending time with wonderful people.

A need greater than my own.

My own experience, plus what I heard from a number of other women made me want to share what I had learnt and to ensure others didn’t end up in the same situation I did.

I wanted to help these women find some time and space to really explore their lives, rediscover their true selves and look at what needed to happen for them to live a life that they loved. A life that they wanted to jump out of bed every day to continue with.

I wanted to help them stop this path to possible burnout and adrenal fatigue, to nip that in the bud and to help women who have got to the burnout stage get back on track.

Working on my passion has been wonderful…

I so love what I do and I get to introduce walking to so many wonderful women in all kinds of ways and see the difference it makes to their lives.

I ran my first Camino Experience in spring 2017, fulfilling a long-held dream of taking a small group of women walking on a section of this iconic path, and we have been doing this once or twice a year since. I am now developing some shorter experiences with less distance and more time for debate, journaling and small group discussion and there are plans to offer more UK Walking Experiences and Walking Retreats.

I run monthly walks in and around London and the South East, have developed a range of other online and offline events and offer coaching and nurturing programmes.

I am on a mission to impact the lives of one million women…

…through this simple, yet often under-rated activity of walking, whatever that impact is to you. It’s really important to appreciate that although we initially think of the physical aspects and impact of walking that the mental/emotional benefits and impact are just as great.

This mission led to the launch of our Facebook group ®One Million Women Walking in November 2019 which is a vibrant sharing, caring, supportive and global community continuously evolving and I have some huge plans for this and it’s reach offline as well.

In January of 2020 I launched my book ‘How Walking Saved My Life’ initially available on kindle but now in paperback and we will be bringing out an audio version later in the year.

Every day my work makes my heart sing.
